Used electric vehicle sales rose sharply in 2025, increasing by 29% year on year, new figures from online used car retailer cinch reveal.
Cinch credits the strong growth to falling prices, a wider range of models on the market and increasing confidence among buyers considering electric cars for the first time.
According to Ben Welham, motoring expert at cinch, the sector is showing clear signs of maturity. He said that improved affordability is helping consumers recognise the value available in the used EV market.
Welham added that the performance seen in 2025 highlights how electric vehicles are moving beyond niche appeal and becoming a realistic, mainstream option for many motorists.
The Tesla Model 3 was the most popular used EV sold on cinch last year, with the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Kona Electric close behind.
Cinch also noted that demand spanned saloons, hatchbacks and SUVs, suggesting that buyers are prioritising practical considerations such as driving range, cost and onboard technology rather than vehicle body style.
When it came to speed of sale, models including the Vauxhall Corsa-e, Vauxhall Mokka-e and Mercedes EQB were among the quickest to find new owners in 2025.
